A disciple of Mikao Usui. Dr. Chijiro Hayashi was a former naval physician, he employed Reiki to treat his patients. He created a study group called "Hayashi Reiki Kenkyukai" under the guidance of Usui Sensei, but he did not deviate from the teachings of "Usui Reiki Ryoho". He played a major role spreading Reiki to North America and taught Mrs. Hawayo Takata, the grandmother of "Western Reiki".

In 1938, Chiyoko Yamaguchi learned "Usui Reiki Ryoho" from Chujiro Hayashi. For 65 years, she practice Reiki on a daily basis with her relatives, friends and people in her community.
